The Rental Mart is all about Canada. The Canadian Rental Mart returns March 6 and 7 to the International Centre in Mississauga, Ont. Like other shows, it’s a place to see major international equipment brands. But unlike general equipment shows, the Rental Mart features equipment aimed squarely at the rental industry. Exhibitors bring out their most rugged, most portable, highest-performing and easiest to operate and maintain offerings. Many Rental Mart exhibitors are specialists in serving the rental industry, with purchasing, support and warranty structures designed with rental stores in mind. They have years (if not decades) of experience supplying equipment to the rental industry, and are often trusted by rental stores to advise them on how to fill out their fleets. When you speak to someone at a booth at the Rental Mart, you can feel certain you are speaking to someone who understands your business. The Rental Mart is the largest gathering of these suppliers in Canada. That means not only are you seeing a comprehensive array of the latest technology, but you also know what you are looking at is available in your area with short lead times and no customs hassles. The equipment will meet Canadian standards and not break down in the cold and snow. The booth representative might even know where your store is located and what icing is in a hockey game. You may even be able to get a quote in Canadian dollars. NEW LOCATION The 2018 Canadian Rental Mart marks the first time the show has been held at the International Centre in Mississauga after many years at the Toronto Congress Centre, just around the corner. The two locations are close enough together that the show hotel remains the same, though it’s ownership has changed the name. So please check your travel plans carefully to make sure you are going to the International Centre for the show and to the Delta Hotels by Marriot Toronto Airport and Conference Centre for lodgings and the Canadian Rental Association banquet. The move to the International Centre makes travel to the show from anywhere in the country even easier, as it is literally next to Pearson International Airport. Parking at the International Centre is ample and free. CANADIAN RENTAL MART TRAINING DAYS Make the Rental Mart an event for the whole store. There’s a chance to get more of your staff involved in the Canadian Rental Mart with the exclusive free training opportunities on the show floor. Bring your supervisors, counter staff, drivers and shop workers to get them up to speed on critical knowledge. WORKING AT HEIGHTS TRAINING WITH SCOTT OWYEN MARCH 6 • 10 A.M. - 2 P.M. Back by popular demand, the Canadian Rental Mart will offer working-at-heights training presented by Genie. Scott Owyen, Genie’s training manager, will conduct a three-hour course covering the following aspects of safe lift operation and elevated work practices: • Overview of the responsibilities of all parties associated with the operation of aerial work platforms as outlined by CSA (manufacturer, dealer, user, owner and operator) • Hazard recognition and avoidance • How to perform a pre-operation inspection • How to perform function tests • How to perform a workplace inspection • Safe machine operation • Final exam • Hands-on practical training Employees working at heights above six feet are required under Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act to have certified workingat- heights training. Thanks to Genie’s generous support, Canadian Rental Mart attendees have an opportunity to receive this training for free and avoid potentially severe penalties from workplace safety authorities. The course will also prepare students for advanced operation of many common designs of personnel lift equipment. SAFETY OFFICER TRAINING WITH LUCIE GIROUX MARCH 7 • 10 A.M. - 2 P.M. Ontario has one of the most stringent sets of safety rules for businesses. Workplace injuries and property damage cost a lot for companies, and there are hidden costs and human costs that can impact businesses. The first step is understanding why some of the rules are in place, translating those rules into real-time policies that make sense for your workforce and finally bringing those rules and policies to life in a meaningful way. Having engaged employees is your best tool to a safe and productive workday, and the safety officer role is key to leading your company in the right direction. In this half-day session, Lucie Giroux, manager of health, safety and environment for Sunbelt Rentals, will turn your staff members into qualified safety officers meeting Ontario’s requirements to have at least two trained employees on your Joint Health and Safety Committee. The course will also satisfy requirements for all employees to have safety awareness training under Ontario law, so every employee, supervisor and manager in your store will benefit, too. This training is mandatory for Ontario companies and severe penalties can be incurred if it is not carried out. Comparable courses from private providers can cost around $2,500, but Rental Mart attendees receive the training for free thanks to the generous support of Sunbelt.
